The Bathroom Rule of Texting Etiquette sponsored a contest to see who could come up with the best rule on texting etiquette, and the following rule is the winner:

If you're in a situation where you'd excuse yourself to go to the bathroom, you should also excuse yourself before reaching for your phone. Otherwise, go ahead without asking. Either way, don't play with your phone longer than you'd stay in the bathroom.

I would also add, "Don't block the aisle of the store while talking on your phone."

Is it OK to text from the bathroom? You know, things like "I'm out of toilet paper, please help."

My daughter doesn't seem to think so.
