Is this controversial?

If you're in a foreign country and someone asks you where you're from, what do you answer?

Why, I answer Texas, of course.

Yep. Always have said Texas. They know where it is, too!

I remember hearing anecdotes about that very thing back in high school (20 years ago), I was living out of state at the time and the instructor was actually expressing a dislike for Texans because they placed themselves above Americans.

Later in life when I spent time overseas I would make a point of saying Texas whenever I was asked. My comrades from other states (with the exception of a New Yorker) typically replied that they were from the States.
